I have walked 7k to work every day in my Salomon boots, so they feel like slippers when we climb Kilimanjaro and experimenting with my Suunto Spartan watch so I am fully up to knowledge on it before we go. Its so interesting to see heart rate, speed etc from the movescount app connected to the watch.
I'm not allowed to do any normal leg strength exercises that I would be doing to prepare for Kilimanjaro, only physio prescribed exercises, which feels like I am in a Jane Fonda workout with elastic bands. But, I am being regiment about them so I have as much strength as possible. The exercises include:
Sidelying glute medius exercises
Hip Bridges squeezing a ball in between my knees
Static sumo squats against the wall (FOR 2 MINUTES!!..... OUCH)
Band stomp OR as I used to call them BOOTY BUSTERS ;)
Side plank
and LOTS of foam rolling on my hips and legs.
Third Space are upping the hypoxic air for us in the hypoxic chamber to 4000m, not as high as Kilimanjaro (5585m) BUT its a start and anything that helps even a fraction is great.
All of my injections for typhoid, tetanus and Hep B are done by the amazing DR ASHER at Third Space medical centre so I'm clear to GO GO GO.
Life has been taxing with clearing out dads house, my husbands Nan having a stroke and dealing with subsidence in my home but I am forever determined to keeping pushing and going to reach the top of the fourth highest mountain in the World.
