I've always been one to explore or want to see the world, it all started with my Grandparents telling me stories of the past, both Grandfathers did there national service for Great Britain during World War II in merchant Navy and royal Navy, My grandparents had a huge part of my upbringing and childhood, taking me away on holidays because my mum could not afford to take me and my sister away, looking after us when times were hard.
My grandfathers would tell me how they both sailed on ships to the Far East like Singapore and Hong Kong, and I always wanted to walk the footsteps of these great men that were in my life and see the sites they had once seen, as they inspired me and educated me about the world we live in. Sadly, one of my grandfathers passed away from cancer but my fathers father is still with us but I don't think he can remember much detail from those conversations we had about all his stories travelling with the Navy because my grandfather is suffering with Vascular Dementia, there is NO cure for such a monstrous disease!, we can not reverse nor bring our loved ones back, but we can start to make an imprint on the development towards a cure or prevention.
Cathy and myself are watching our loved ones deteriorate from Dementia and want to help by raising money for research and support.
I will be keeping a detailed journal of my prepreation to climb Kilimanjaro, from gym work to hikeing the UK's highest peaks, the biggest factor that concerns us all is AMS (altitude mountain sickness) so we will be preparing our oxygen intake using hypoxic chambers at the Third Space.
