This week has really been getting used to endurance rather the than short, intense training I'm used to mixed with strength training.
Cardio wise I've done over 4 hours of walking and 2 hours on the stair master, one of my main concerns is that my hands and fingers swell up like sausages and ache for an hour after I finish my walking. Also, my right knee and right groin are screaming, I think it's because of years of boxing leading with my left foot so my hip is twisted and not used to endurance.
Now, normally I would just go through it and "Cathy up" but I really need to be sensible as there is a lot of training ahead and a huge mountain to climb so I need to be injury free! So, I took myself off to see the brilliant Dr Asher at Third Space Medical, who has referred me to a specialist for my neck, hip and knee. I'm seeing Doug Tannahill and Rob Madden from the Centre for Health and Human Performance on Wednesday so I can get myself fixed. My REAL upset is that SkyGo has taken off free watching of all Criminal Minds after series 1.....GUTTED!! as was looking forward to watching all 11 series whilst on the stair master.
Strength wise:
I have written myself quite a diverse programme as need to work on different movements. I've done lots of postural work and glute strength working both unilateral and bilateral, so a mixture of deadlifts, squats, walking lunges, step ups, single leg press, single leg deadlifts, power cleans, chin ups, back row, back flies, single arm shoulder press, lateral pull downs.... All with heavy weights and six repetitions. Along with planks, side planks, rotations cables twists, back extensions to keep my core strong.
We're 12% towards our target of 20k! YEY.... but still a way to go. We are organising a fundraiser in September with a silent auction of some great items and we will start publicising our just giving page in July..... So stay tuned ;)
We did a lovely 9.7km walk in the rain on Saturday (see below). Next time its right around the park.
